WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS

Weight Loss Injections

As set out in NICE guidance a small number of patients are able to access weight loss injections on the NHS. The eligibility criteria are:

  • A Body Mass Index (BMI) of ≥40 kg/m2 (reduce threshold by 2.5 kg/m2 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or AfricanCaribbean ethnic backgrounds) and
  • at least 4 ‘qualifying comorbidities
    • Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD)
    • Hypertension
    • Dyslipidaemia
    • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)
    • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D

If a patient fulfils this criteria they can self refer. Patients will be expected to engage in a 9-month wraparound service provided by Xyla, which aims to provide support on the following:

  • Nutrition: Support the individual to eat nourishing foods and achieve a healthy weight.
  • Physical Activity: Discover how physical activity supports weight loss and find ways to stay active that work for you.
  • Psychological Support: Build confidence and gain practical tools to take control of your health – now and for the future.

Patients can self-refer using a self-referral form:
