What is Learning Disability Week?

Learning Disability Week is a UK-wide campaign run every June by the charity Mencap. It’s about shining a light on the experiences, talents, and rights of people with learning disabilities.

This year’s theme is “Do You See Me?” – encouraging all of us to notice, include, and value people with learning disabilities as equal members of society.

Why It Matters

  • Over 1.5 million people in the UK live with a learning disability.
  • Many face barriers to healthcare, employment, and everyday participation.
  • People with learning disabilities still face unfair treatment and barriers – but that can change, and we all have a part to play.

At Venn PCN, we believe everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. This week is a reminder to listen, learn, and treat everyone with dignity and kindness.

How to Get Involved

  • Learn more: Understand what learning disabilities are – and how they affect people’s lives.
  • Talk and share: Help spread awareness by sharing messages, stories, or facts during the week
  • Be inclusive: Think about how to make spaces, conversations, and services more welcoming.
  • Support someone: Whether it’s a friend, family member, or neighbour – a kind word or helping hand makes a difference.
