CARERS  WEEK 9-15 JUNE 2025

CARERS WEEK

Carers Week Graphic

Carers Week celebrates the millions of unpaid carers across the UK — family members, friends, and neighbours who look after someone who couldn’t manage without them. This week is about recognising their care, raising awareness, and making sure carers get the support they deserve.

What Is Carers Week?

Carers Week is a national awareness campaign held every June to recognise and support people who care for others. These are unpaid carers – often family members – who help someone with a disability, mental health condition, illness, or age-related needs.

Many carers don’t even see themselves as carers. They simply step in to help. But without the right support, caring can have a big impact on their health, relationships, finances, and wellbeing.

This year’s theme is "Putting Carers on the Map" – calling for better visibility and recognition of unpaid carers in every part of life: work, health services, schools, and the community.

Why It Matters

  • Over 5 million people in the UK are unpaid carers – some supporting loved ones around the clock.
  • Carers often feel invisible or isolated. Many juggle caring with jobs, family life, or their own health needs.
  • 1 in 4 adults in the UK regularly drinks more than the recommended limit.
  • Supporting carers means giving them a voice, listening to their needs, and connecting them with the help available.

At Venn PCN, we recognise the enormous value of carers in our local area. Carers are a vital part of the care system – and we’re here to support them, too

How You Can Get Involved

  • Check in with a carer: If someone you know supports a loved one, ask how they’re doing – it means a lot.
  • Recognise your role: If you care for someone, you are a carer. You’re not alone – and support is available.
  • Share awareness: Spread the word about Carers Week on social media or in your community.
  • Use local support: Ask your GP team or practice care coordinator about help for carers near you.
