Alcohol Awareness Week is a UK-wide campaign that takes place every November. It aims to get people thinking about alcohol – how it affects us as individuals, families, and communities – and to support those wanting to make a change.

What is Alcohol Awareness Week?

Organised by Alcohol Change UK, Alcohol Awareness Week takes place across the UK each November to start conversations around alcohol, highlight the harm it can cause, and encourage people to rethink their relationship with drinking.

The theme for 2025 is "Understanding Alcohol Harm", focusing on the physical, emotional, and social impacts of alcohol – and how we can protect ourselves and others.

Why It Matters

  • Advocate for Accessibility:
Encourage your workplace or community to improve accessibility in public spaces, transportation, and digital environments.
  • Alcohol is linked to over 200 medical conditions, including cancer, heart disease, liver disease, and depression.
  • 1 in 4 adults in the UK regularly drinks more than the recommended limit.
  • Alcohol misuse costs the NHS £3.5 billion per year and is a key factor in domestic abuse, family breakdown, and mental ill-health.
  • Many people don’t realise how much they drink – or how it’s affecting them – until they stop.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Check your drinking using free tools like the Drinkaware self-assessment.
  • Talk about alcohol with friends, family, or colleagues – reducing stigma can save lives.
  • Make a change – whether it’s cutting down, having drink-free days, or seeking support.
  • Reach out – if you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.
