International Youth Day is a United Nations event observed every 12 August. It’s a global day to raise awareness about the issues facing young people and to celebrate the power of youth to shape their communities and futures.

This year’s theme is “Youth Empowerment for a Healthier Future”, which focuses on giving young people a say in decisions that affect their health and wellbeing — from mental health services to education and climate change.

What is International Youth Day?

International Youth Day is a United Nations event observed every 12 August. It’s a global day to raise awareness about the issues facing young people and to celebrate the power of youth to shape their communities and futures.

This year’s theme is “Youth Empowerment for a Healthier Future”, which focuses on giving young people a say in decisions that affect their health and wellbeing — from mental health services to education and climate change.

Why It Matters

  • Young people face real challenges — around 1 in 6 young people in the UK report experiencing mental health struggles.
  • Access to support, advice, and opportunities makes a big difference
  • By involving youth in health, education, and community decisions, we create a stronger and more inclusive society.

At Venn PCN, we support young people across Hull and East Riding with access to health advice, mental health support, and local services that listen.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Listen to young voices:
Give space for young people to talk about what matters to them.
  • Share support resources:
Encourage access to local youth and mental health services
  • Be an ally:
Parents, teachers, and neighbours all play a role in helping young people thrive.
  • Talk about wellbeing:
Start open conversations at home, school, and in the community.
